What is Honda Lane Keep Assist?
One of the features included in Honda Sensing® is the Honda Lane Keeping Assist System (LKAS). What is Lane Keep Assist? Its primary function is to watch the road and notify you if you begin to drift from your lane, so you can take corrective action. Read on to learn more about this system and how it can help keep you safe on Cody roads!
How Does Honda Lane Keep Assist Work?
The Honda Lane Keeping Assist system is similar to a lane departure warning system or lane centering assist. Using a windshield-mounted camera, LKAS scans lane markings and warns the driver if car drift is detected without an active turn signal. The multi-information display will show a warning icon, and the steering wheel will vibrate to get your attention. If you don’t react immediately, Electric Powering Steering (EPS) can guide your vehicle back to the center of the lane.
Can I Turn Off Lane Keep Assist?
You can! Honda Sensing systems, including the Lane Keeping Assist System, can be turned off by you — the driver. Here are the steps:
- Press the MAIN button on the steering wheel until LKAS is visible on the multi-information display.
- Press LKAS.
- You should see lane outlines on the display (dotted lines become solid when the system is ready).
- Press the MAIN or LKAS button to shut the system off.
What Are the Other Honda Sensing Features?
The Lane Keeping Assist system Honda Sensing® feature just barely scratches the surface of what this suite of driver assistance systems can do. Available as standard or optional equipment on new Honda vehicles, such as the new Accord, new Pilot, and new Civic, Honda Sensing® includes LKAS, as well as:
- Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC)
- Road Departure Mitigation System (RDM)
- Collision Mitigation Braking System (CMBS)
- Honda LaneWatch
- Blind Spot Information System
- Cross-Traffic Monitor
- Auto High-Beam Headlights
You’d expect to find an identical lane keeping system as part of Toyota Safety Sense, but that’s not the case. TSS includes Lane Departure Alert, but it doesn’t use steering assist to help re-center your vehicle.
