What Is Collision Mitigation Braking System?

The Honda Sensing® suite has introduced many state-of-the-art features to the Honda lineup, but if you haven’t heard of these pioneering systems, you may be wondering just what is Collision Mitigation Braking System (CMBS™)? CMBS™ was designed to help prevent a front-end collision by alerting the driver of unsafe conditions. This provides the driver with ample time to react, so an accident is avoided completely.

How Does CMBS™ Work?

The Collision Mitigation Braking System™ utilizes a radar, found on the grille of your new Honda, which measures the distance between your car and any upcoming obstacles. If the obstacle gets too close, your car will provide immediate alerts – even deploying the brakes if necessary! This system works in three stages:

• Stage 1: Visual and audio warnings are given to remind the driver to react.
• Stage 2: Brakes are lightly applied to slow the vehicle down.
• Stage 3: Brakes are strongly applied to reduce speeds dramatically.

Because of this three-tiered system, most drivers will never need stage 3 around Laurel and Red Lodge. However, it is there in an emergency to keep you safe throughout Cody!

What Else is Included in Honda Sensing®?

Collision Mitigation Braking System™ is just one of the many features included in the Honda Sensing® suite. Some of the other driver assistive features you can enjoy include:

• Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC) maintains your desired speed when possible, but automatically slows the car down or even brakes if surrounding traffic comes to a halt.
• Lane Keeping Assist System (LKAS) automatically adjusts your steering to keep your vehicle safe and sound between lane markers.
• Road Departure Mitigation System (RDM) prevents lane drift by monitoring the road markers and alerting you when you begin to move out of position.
• Traffic Sign Recognition (TSR) reads upcoming road signs and relays the information to you.
