But if you don’t, these general tips will teach you how to check car oil quickly and accurately:

• Make sure your car is parked on a level surface for the best reading and let the engine cool off completely.
• Pop the hood and look for the dipstick.
• Pull the dipstick out and wipe away the oil at the end with a clean cloth.
• Replace the dipstick all the way.
• Pull the dipstick back out and check the oil level indicator line.
• If the oil level is too low, use a funnel to fill the reservoir to the appropriate level.
